This recipe is for the crust for the chocolate truffle pie. It adds a nice touch to an already-delicious pie. It can be made with most any chocolate cookie crumbs. we have used Nabisco’s Famous Chocolate Wafers and Oreo Cookie Crumbs. We haven’t been able to find the Oreo Crumbs in the stores lately, and have wondered whether they are no longer made.
The Famous Chocolate Wafers are not sandwich cookies, so there is no filling to remove, but they are more expensive. We bought them once, joking that it took too long to lick the icing off all those Oreos, before grinding the cookie part. When he’s in a hurry, Bo simply uses the pre-made Oreo crumb pie crust. Unfortunately, we don’t have a photo of the crust without its filling. I will be sure to get one very soon. Follow this link to the recipe for the chocolate truffle pie filling.
If you want to make your own crust, here’s the recipe:
1-1/2 cup Oreo cookie crumbs or Famous Chocolate Wafer crumbs
1 cup finely chopped pecans (optional)
3 tablespoons melted butter
1 egg white
Combine all ingredients.
Stir well until all ingredients are completely integrated.
Press into the tart pan or pie pan, as you would for a traditional pie crust.
Bake at 350 F. for 15 minutes.
The crust is now ready for your pie or tart filling.
